Debra Smith is a textile artist who works with antique Japanese kimono fabric.   Smith pieces these fabrics into clean and contemporary images. The craftsmanship and history of her unique choice of materials enhances the impact and interpretation of her work. Smith works on both a large and small scale.   Her pieces have been shown by galleries in the Midwest, on the East Coast, and in Australia.   She has also completed   several commissions, including creations for Red Cross/Blue Shield and American Century. Debra Smith was born in Hannibal, Missouri.. She attended   both the Kansas City Art Institute and the Fashion Institute of Technology.   Debra Smith recently returned to Kansas City after living for eight years in Brooklyn, NY.
