Terry Evans is a photographer whose work is primarily an inquiry into the nature of prairie from its native state to its use, abandonment, and care. She photographs from both ground and aerial perspectives and lately within the confines of natural history herbaria, and bird and mammal museum storage areas, where she has recently photographed 19th Century prairie specimens. Her intention is to tell the prairie's stories, past and present, through visible facts and layers of time and memory on the landscape. Her current work entitled 'Revealing Chicago: An Aerial Portrait' explores the complexities of the urban prairie as she photographs Chicago and the surrounding region from the air. This work is on exhibition in downtown Chicago's Millennium Park from June 10th to October 10th, 2005 with a companion book (Harry N. Abrams, 192 pages).

She has exhibited widely including one-person shows at the Chicago Art Institute, the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, and The Field Museum of Natural History. She is a Guggenheim Fellow and her work is in major museum collections including the Chicago Art Institute, Museum of Modern Art, N.Y., San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, The Smithsonian National Museum of American Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, George Eastman House, The Whitney Museum of American Art, and many other collections.
